Location notes
Once you have read this guide open the submissions page to submit a location.

A brief synopsis of the local area.
1) Where are you in the country?
People may have arrived at this page by following a link from a website and not be really sure where in the UK the location was. So it would be helpful to mention a reasonably close major city or well know location.
2) What line are you on?
Are you on a major route (ie. WCML, GWML, ECML etc)
Railway type and traffic
Information about what you would usually expect to see running along the line. Also a guide as to the type of railway i.e. branch line, main line, freight branch, light rail or tram way etc.
Environment
Information about where you will find yourself…
What sort of place are you going to?
Is it open fields, or an inner city location?
Will you get mugged after dark and should you avoid football colours? :o)
Road directions
How to get there by car...
Most people can find there way to somewhere major so a brief note about the last few miles of the journey.

The Map Co-ordinates field below links to street map to convert your co-ordinates to other useful geographical references, useful for finding on an os map or, perhaps, setting the satellite navigation in the car.

Photographic notes
So you're there.
When is the light good or bad?
Does the sun prohibit angles during the day?
Can you only shoot trains travelling in one direction?
Will you need steps to get over that nasty palisade fence?
Are the lights on the platforms a really horrid hue of tungsten.
Will things be flying past so fast the shutter lag on your digital camera will have you photting the back of a train!

Trainspots is not just about still photography, we can also help the videographers. In here we can add notes about the location that only someone with a video camera would need.
i.e. A pan of this location is marred by some bushes directly between the photographer and line, although this does not effect stills coming or going.
Looks great but is next to the M6 so it is quite noisy.

The set of links above - [Where on the map] will open a separate window using maps from Streetmap to show you where the location actually is. The co-ordinate conversion page will give you a list of the various map and gps references to the location
The links below - [Links to photographs at this location] are links to railway websites with photographs taken at the location.
The photos below will be of a much lower quality than you would usually find. There is a good reason for this. The pages will load faster! Trainspots is about the information, for the quality shots follow the links - the high quality pictures will be found on the external websites.

If you do find this information useful then please feel free to mention how you 'found' the location on your website or magazine submission.

Picture notes specific to this picture.
There is currently the option for 8 pictures per page. Any more than this and one would need to subdivide the shots into different locations.

The images here are highly compressed versions of original submissions, for the quality pictures of the location follow the web links above..
The images here should give you a flavour of what kind of angles you can get from the location. We are not just interested in the good angles, if the shot to the north is the ’Classic’ view but the shot to the south is appalling then it may be worth including. This could also be stated in the text.
